Gas prices to definitely not increase this winter (EnergyMin Ivan)

The biggest burden on any family's pocket during the winter is the price of gas and it is very certain that this winter the bill will not increase, Minister of Energy, Bogdan Gruia Ivan declared on Friday evening.
"The biggest burden on any family's pocket during the winter is the price of gas, more than that of electricity. Despite complaints of potential infringement from the European Commission, we decided to assume until March 31, 2026, that is, until the end of the cold season, the gas price cap scheme. The fact that Romgaz, a company with majority state capital, has managed to develop greatly in the last two years, the fact that Transgaz has managed to develop its gas transport capacity, has managed to lead us to a price reduction, in some cases, even below the capped price. So we are not just talking about a predictability of a price that will not increase this winter for gas - what is very certain is that the price will not increase gas bills this winter - but we are talking about a natural continuity when we regulated the market, when we regulated the consumption side", Ivan told Digi 24 TV station.
He stressed that at this moment Romania is the country in the European Union with the largest amount of gas prepared for the winter, stored.
"We exceed 80%, while the European average is 76%, after I met with all the market operators and explicitly asked them to buy gas, to store it now, when the price is very low during the summer, compared to the risk of stocking up on gas in January or February, when we have prices 3-4 times higher on the stock exchange. It is obvious that the final price for such an imbalance will still be paid by the people. I have made sure from now on that we will not get there and, to conclude: gas prices will definitely not increase this winter", the minister of Energy pointed out.
He recalled that the district heating support schemes, which belong to those cities that have their own heating distribution system, are still valid, and that people with low incomes will still have that support scheme of the Ministry of Labor, whether it is the heating aid for people who heat their homes with wood or for those who heat them with gas.
"All those schemes remain valid this winter," Bogdan Ivan specified.
