A two-day Annual Meeting of the Romanian Diplomacy (RADR) dubbed "A decade of changes: the impact of Romanian diplomacy" starts today in Bucharest.

According to tradition, the event is organised close to the Romanian Diplomacy Day, celebrated annually on September 1. This year it will bring together, in physical format, the heads of Romania's diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad, as well as members of the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and senior Romanian officials, said Agerpress.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), the convention of ambassadors offers the opportunity for a common vision and determination, essential in a period of global uncertainties and risks.

The working sessions of the RADR2025 will be dedicated to the new regional strategic reality and emphasise the concern with the security of the region, strengthening the Euro-Atlantic partnerships and adaptation to geopolitical changes in the neighbourhood. Important items on the agenda are economic diplomacy and the importance of joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as well as the management of consular affairs and the relationship with institutional partners.

This year, the special guests for the working sessions are: the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas (via videoconference); Moldova's Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi; Poland's Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski (via videoconference); NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Sekerinska (via videoconference); Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Roxana Minzatu. This year's edition also includes a video message from Finland's Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen.

"RADR2025 focuses on the European dimension, highlighting the role of the citizen in shaping the future of the European Union and promoting cohesion, prosperity and security in an enlarged Europe. Romania thus reaffirms its commitment to regional co-operation, European integration and responsible leadership, transforming diplomacy into an instrument of security, competitiveness and strategic influence," according to MAE.

The official opening of the meeting will take place at the Palace of Parliament.

Chairing the RADR2025 works will be Romania's Foreign Minister Oana Toiu.

On Tuesday, part of RADR2025, President Nicusor Dan will welcome at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace the heads of Romanian diplomatic missions, consular offices and directors of Romanian cultural institutes. This is his first meeting as the head of state, since taking office, with heads of Romania's diplomatic missions, consular offices and the directors of Romanian cultural institutes, who annually convene in Bucharest in late August, early September.
