BusinessMin Oprea says Romania benefits from US's support to join OECD

Romania benefits the from the unequivocal support of the US for its swiftly accession to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), according to the conclusions of the meetings held in Washington between Business Environment Minister Stefan-Radu Oprea and US State Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, a release of the Ministry of Business, Commerce and Entrepreneurship (MMACA) sent to AGERPRES on Thursday informs.
The meeting took place within a working visit to the US paid by Minister Stefan-Radu Oprea, occasion on which the Romanian official talked to Wilbur Ross about the bilateral relations, the international context, Romania's priorities of the Presidency of the EU Council and the growth of the investment volume in the context of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the US.
The scheduled of the visit included a meeting with President and CEO of the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA), and discussions with representatives of the American-Romanian Business Council, the US Chamber of Commerce, the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) and the Ford Motor Company.
Moreover, Minister Oprea also met Chair of the House Small Business Committee Steve Chabot.
"There are many US companies interested in entering on the Romanian market with investments or expand their investments and these plans are to be announced. A swiftly accession to the OECD will strengthen our profile as commercial partner and a safe destination for investments," Minister Stefan-Radu Oprea stated.
According to the Romanian statistics, in the first eight months of this year, the total bilateral trade amounted to 1.934 million US dollars, increasing by 6.8 percent compared to the same period of last year. Romanian export stood at 1.155 billion US dollars (a 29.6 increase) and the US imports stood at 778 million US dollars (declining by 15.2 percent).
