The duo of Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu / Taiwanese Hao-ching Chan advanced on Wednesday to the women's doubles' semifinals of the Wimbledon Grand Slam, after defeating 6-3 6-4 the team made of American CiCi Bellis and Czech Marketa Vondrousova.
Niculescu and Chan, #9 seed, prevailed in one hour and 6 minutes. Monica Niculescu thus nails down her best doubles' performance in a Grand Slam tournament, after the quarters at Roland Garros (2010) and the Australian Open (2012). Last year, Monica lost in the opening at Wimbledon. The Niculescu / Chan pair secured 100,000 pound sterling and 780 WTA points. Niculescu and Chan are next to square off with the winner of the match opposing Svetlana Kuznetsova (Russia) / Kristina Mladenovic (France) to Makoto Ninomiya (Japan) / Renata Voracova (Czech Republic).
