ParliamentaryElections2020/Ciolos: It's essential that we back a credible candidate for PM, a new beginning is needed
Dacian Ciolos, co-chair of the Save Romania Union - Freedom, Unity and Solidarity Party (USR PLUS), said today that it is essential that the formation backs "a credible candidate" for Prime Minister, adding that from the alliance's point of view, "a new beginning" is needed.
"With regard to the future Prime Minister, we believe that it is essential that we back a credible candidate. This must now be discussed in negotiations and the consultations with the President, it's not a subject to arrange on TV. It is however clear that this candidate must be able to bring together the right-wing reformist forces. From our point of view, a new beginning is needed after these results," Ciolos told a news conference.
He voiced his conviction that President Klaus Iohannis will conduct a "very pragmatic" analysis of the solution that "could send this signal of a new beginning" and form a credible government, remarking also that the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) becomes "indispensable" in a future ruling line-up.
"USR PLUS is ready to assume government together with the National Liberal Party (PNL). Under these circumstances, UDMR obviously becomes indispensable. It is important that we come up as soon as possible with a reform plan that provides predictability to the Romanians and Romania," Ciolos said.
The USR PLUS leader said that the alliance has put together a document that will provide the basis for negotiations for the future governing program. Titled 'The Revolution of Good Governance', it a synthesis of the 40 government commitments made by USR PLUS during the election campaign.
