"Half an hour ago I submitted it [his candidacy - editor's note]. I went to the minister's office to do it, of course," stated Lazar, at the CSM (Supreme Council of Magistrates) headquarters.
On March 18, he had stated he would submit his candidacy for a new term at the Public Ministry. The prosecutor general office will become vacant on April 28 when the current mandate of Augustin Lazar expires.
Immediately after the announcement, Justice Minister Tudorel Toader posted a sunset picture on his Facebook page.
On October 24 last year, the Minister of Justice initiated a procedure to remove the prosecutor general of Romania, Augustin Lazar, from office. Back then, he claimed that Lazar' activity as manager contradicted his constitutional and legal obligations.
