A Ukrainian citizen who had been in the Maramures Mountains for three days, exhausted, hypothermic, and without food, was rescued on Wednesday night by mountain rescuers and border police officers, informed Dan Benga, the director of the Maramures County Public Mountain Rescue Service.
"After more than five and a half hours from the start of the mission, the Ukrainian citizen was saved. He was found at the coordinates where he was instructed to remain in order to be rescued by the rescuers. A medical assessment was done, and since he had no medical issues, the mountain rescuers decided to evacuate him on foot. Before descending, he was offered hot tea and sandwiches," said Dan Benga, Agerpres.
The 30-year-old Ukrainian citizen, who had been alone on the mountain, refused transportation to the nearest medical facility.
"After descending to the base of the mountain, the Ukrainian refused to be transported to the medical unit for further investigation, so he was taken by the relevant authorities for the necessary procedures in such cases," added Dan Benga.
The man's rescue from the Maramures Mountains was carried out in collaboration with the Border Police Sector in Valea Viseului, STS Maramures, and STS Bistrita.
